BOOKS IN THE BOROUGH LITERARY FESTIVAL SET FOR MAY 2027

Stonington, CT (September 1, 2026) – Stonington Borough’s rich literary history will be even further enhanced in May 2027 with the debut of Books in the Borough, a one-day literary festival and juried competition.

Books in the Borough, Inc., is a nonprofit charitable literary organization founded in 2026. It is composed of area writers and community members dedicated to connecting Connecticut and Rhode Island authors with local and regional audiences. Books in the Borough will recognize excellence, provide a promotional platform for selected authors, and promote youth literacy, all while drawing tourism to the region.

The inaugural event is planned for May 15, 2027, in Stonington Village. Venues will include the La Grua Center, which will serve as the event hub, the James Merrill House, and the Stonington Free Library. The day will include book signings and sales, author panel discussions, guest readings, award presentations, and self-guided tours of Poets’ Corner at Stonington Cemetery, resting place of the celebrated poet James Merrill.

Books in the Borough will also include juried Literary Awards in the categories of Adult Fiction, Young Adult Fiction, Children’s Books, and Poetry. Medalists will be announced at the Festival. Author submissions will be accepted via the website beginning October 1.

An annual Youth Literacy Library Prize will also be awarded to a Connecticut or Rhode Island public library in support of its literacy programs.
